Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world

The Opportunity

  • This opportunity offers both consulting advice and practical technical development to help shape a better world across various built environment fields.
  • You will work closely with product, engineering, and domain stakeholders to deliver models and AI-powered features that are accurate, reliable, scalable, and measurable.
  • You’ll contribute across the AI lifecycle—from problem framing and data preparation to model training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and deliver AI solutions aligned to business goals (e.g., prediction, classification, LLM, computer vision, agent based modelling).
  • Develop end-to-end ML pipelines: data ingestion, feature engineering, training, evaluation, packaging, and deployment.
  • Research & Advisory: Modern AI model research, proof of concept towards advisory works.
  • Build and deploy production-grade services (REST/gRPC) for inference using scalable patterns (batch, online, streaming).
  • Optimize model performance: accuracy, latency, throughput, and cost (including profiling and hardware-aware optimization when relevant).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, product managers, and analysts to integrate AI into products and workflows.
  • Maintain engineering best practices: version control, reproducibility, testing, documentation, and CI/CD for ML.
  • Communicate results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences; provide tradeoffs and recommendations.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?
  • Solid understanding of ML fundamentals: supervised/unsupervised learning, evaluation metrics, overfitting, regularization, feature engineering, and experiment design.
  • Proven track records in deploying models into production (e.g., FastAPI/Flask, Docker, Kubernetes, serverless, or managed ML platforms).
  • Experience with data manipulation and analysis using SQL and/or big data tools (e.g., Spark, Databricks, BigQuery).
  • Proficiency in agentic workflow (e.g., LangChain), multi-agent framework (e.g., AutoGen) and MCP tooling.
  • Proven track record with neural networks, NLP, Computer Vision, and Agentic AI projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud AI services (Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI) and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Knowledge of MLOps concepts: model registry, experiment tracking, reproducible training, automated retraining, and monitoring.

Qualifications and Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years of IT experience and 5-7 years of hands-on experience as an AI engineer.
  • Bachelor or above in data science, statistics, maths, computer science, or engineering
  • AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty (Preferable not mandatory)
  • AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate (Preferable not mandatory)
  • or anything equivalent from Azure, Google or Databricks
  • Programming languages: Python, .NET, C++/C#, SQL and Cypher. JavaScript/TypeScript will be a advantageous.
