Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Tackling climate change is arguably the most difficult challenge humanity has faced and overcoming it will require experts from all disciplines and backgrounds to come together and collaborate. Arup has made sustainability and the urgent need to transform to a low carbon energy system our most important priority. We are recognised as leading consultants in the built environment working for both public and private sector clients on some of the most important advisory and engineering projects in the world. Included is our growing energy business in UK.

Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

Our Energy Hub in England and Wales is key to the growth of our energy business in response to net zero challenge, with key skills in both engineering consultancy and advisory services for key energy clients. We have built expertise across a wide range of energy markets, but have particular strength in offshore interconnectors, offshore wind, and hydrogen.

We are specifically seeking enthusiastic Assistant Energy Advisors with knowledge and experience from across the energy market, but particularly those in areas that support decarbonisation, including electricity systems, wind, hydrogen and nuclear, to join us and become an integral part of our Midwest energy advisory team at either our Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol or Cardiff offices. We offer advisory services ranging from project management consultancy to procurement and regulatory support and delivery management services, and serve key energy clients across the region and the wider UK, including Uniper, National Grid, and various renewable and electricity transmission developers.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

The role of an Assistant Energy Advisor will be to drive, challenge and successfully deliver complex strategic and operational energy projects using best practice management and advisory knowledge and skills. Your typical activities will include supporting the day-to-day project manager on infrastructure or advisory projects and programmes of varying size and complexity, from early project phase advice to delivery of large work packages to support energy developments. Working as part of, or leading, a multi-disciplinary team to deliver commissions to a high standard of quality and client satisfaction. You will support finding new work opportunities with current and new clients, and developing client relationships to support business growth. This will include supporting the development of new service offerings and entry to emerging energy markets. This position offers scope for personal development and we encourage independent thinking, focusing on developing existing skills and experience, and the sharing of these experiences with other team members.

Requirements:

You will be able to demonstrate your skills, experience and understanding in the following areas:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (engineering, business, energy systems, etc) & working toward chartership through a recognised UK or international institution in relevant discipline (engineering, project management, etc) preferred.
  • A background in the engineering consulting and/or energy industry, with a preference for those with renewable energy or electrical system experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of project management principles is preferred.
  • Able to apply experience to a wide range of projects in the energy sector to deliver value to our clients.
  • Ability to apply a range of digital tools to improve day to day efficiency including the advanced use of MS 365 tools in project management delivery
