The Biodiversity Consultant will be a part of the Environmental, Social, and Governance | Sustainable Investment Advisory team based in Bogotá, Colombia. This role will contribute to the delivery of innovative, environmentally responsible, and sustainability-focused solutions that advance resilient and inclusive investments and enable the development of sustainable infrastructure across the region. The consultant will support ongoing business growth in Colombia and the broader South America geography, working closely with colleagues in San Francisco, Houston, New York, and other global offices.
This role centers on delivering independent Environmental and Social Consultant services for financial institutions throughout the transaction, construction, and operational phases of infrastructure and development projects. The role also will work with multidisciplinary teams passionate about advancing emerging initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity and ecological systems across Latin America.
The opportunity
Apply domestic and international environmental and social (E&S) standards, including IFC Performance Standards 1 and 6, and Equator Principles IV, with emphasis on E&S risks, ecosystem services, biodiversity, and health & safety requirements.
Prepare and assess E&S due diligence and monitoring reports across infrastructure, transport, and energy sectors.
Work cross-functionally to evaluate biodiversity risks, impacts, and mitigation strategies.
Integrate nature-based solutions into infrastructure project design and planning.
Liaise with regulatory agencies to clarify project scope, impact, and compliance requirements.
Participate in client meetings to address project concerns, particularly biodiversity-related issues.
Lead project management activities.
Organize and execute site visits with senior staff, coordinating with clients and local communities while upholding team safety.
Contribute to business development by preparing responses to Requests for Proposals.
Manage project priorities through timely communication and collaboration with teams.
Is this role right for you?
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental economics, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a closely related field required; master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 6 years of experience delivering infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, rail, energy, ports).
Expertise in impact assessment, mitigation planning, habitat conservation surveys, and compliance evaluations aligned with national regulations and international frameworks; familiarity with IFC Performance Standards is advantageous.
Strong background of leading teams under tight deadlines.
Fluent in English and Spanish; excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills required. Portuguese language skills are a plus.
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with ArcGIS preferred.
