With a strong pipeline of current and future projects, the Protective Design Engineer will play a key role within Arup's Resilience, Security & Risk (RSR) team, delivering blast and protective design solutions for buildings, critical infrastructure and other high-profile projects across South-East Asia. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary and global teams, the role is responsible for developing and delivering risk-based protective design strategies from concept through to construction, helping create resilient and secure environments for our clients.

 

The Opportunity 

 

 

  • Lead and deliver blast and protective design services across all project stages, from concept design through to construction.
  • Undertake blast analysis and design assessments for reinforced concrete, steel and composite structures.
  • Perform façade blast assessments for glazed and non-glazed façade systems.
  • Design hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) solutions and other protective security measures.
  • Carry out design checks and engineering analyses in accordance with recognised standards, including UFC, ASCE and relevant local building codes.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, design criteria, specifications, calculations, finite element analysis (FEA) outputs and other engineering deliverables.

 

Is this role right for you? 

 

 

  • Strong experience in blast engineering, protective design and security risk management.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes, including UFC 3-340-01, UFC 3-340-02, UFC 4-023-03, ASCE 59 and applicable local regulations.
  • Understanding of risk-based design methodologies, hazard assessment, vulnerability studies, consequence analysis and protective design strategies.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications, engineering reports and protective design documentation for buildings, critical infrastructure and industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory and occupational health and safety requirements relevant to project delivery
