This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including commercial, industrial, healthcare, data centres, and educational sectors. As a Building Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, integrating, and optimizing control systems to enhance building performance and contribute to our innovation building automation initiatives.
You will also have the opportunity to drive innovation in building automation, IoT integration, and energy-efficient control strategies, shaping the future of intelligent building systems at Arup.
As a Building Controls Engineer at Arup, you will:
- Design BMS/building controls systems to optimize building performance and streamline building management, including applications in commercial, industrial, and Data Centre environments.
- Work closely with disciplines like Mechanical, Electrical, ICT, Smart Buildings, and Digital to ensure fully integrated control solutions.
- Ensure seamless integration of BMS, EPMS, and HVAC control systems into overall building design, with consideration for Data Centres where required..
- Conduct design studies and produce conceptual design reports.
- Prepare contract documentation, specifications, and drawings ensuring compliance.
- Conduct surveys and site inspections.
- Witness control system commissioning, ensuring proper execution and alignment with design, including Data Centre BMS and EPMS where applicable.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about smart building automation and energy-efficient control systems. These are the essential skills and qualifications for the position:
- A bachelor's degree in Controls, Mechatronics, Building Services, Mechanical, or Electrical Services Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience designing building control systems (BMS, BAS, or HVAC Controls).
We Also Value:
- Actively working towards or interested in achieving Chartered Engineer status
- Experience in Data Centre projects.
- Experience with PLC (programmable Logic Controllers) and DDC (Direct Digital Control) systems, particularly in complex building environments, including Data Centre.
- Familiarity with the latest standards and regulations relevant to building control systems, with knowledge of Data Centre-specific standards (ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, ISO 50001).
- Proficiency in software tools commonly used in the building controls sector.
