Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Ireland.

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Strategic Communications is part of the broader Strategy Consulting team which comprises of four core disciplines: Strategy & Transformation, Strategic Communications, Data Insights & AI, and Data Advisory. We all work together to help our clients to navigate and deliver change.

As part of our multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across Ireland and beyond. From iconic buildings to critical infrastructure, we're shaping a better world one project at a time.

The Opportunity

Responding to global challenges requires rapid adaptation and transformation of the built environment. Strategic Communications plays a vital role in this process by shaping strategy, crafting compelling messages, and engaging stakeholders to help our clients communicate with clarity, purpose, and impact.

As a Communications & Engagement Consultant at Arup, you will:

  • Lead and deliver stakeholder engagement and strategic communications work across the built environment (cities & planning, transport, water, energy) to support successful project outcomes
  • Design and run engagement activities—workshops, consultations, and events (in-person and virtual)—with content tailored to different audiences to build understanding and participation
  • Manage public and stakeholder consultations end-to-end, including stakeholder mapping, capturing and organising feedback, analysing themes, and producing clear reports that inform decisions
  • Translate policy and regulatory developments into concise briefings, consultation responses, and engagement strategies so clients can respond confidently and make well-informed choices
  • Create and coordinate high-quality communications materials (reports, presentations, publications, web/digital and social content), working with design/digital teams and collaborating across Arup disciplines to deliver a consistent message and joined-up outputs

Does this role inspire you?

We're looking for someone who is passionate about sustainability. We also value:

  • Relevant qualification (Level 8 or above) in Communications or a related discipline (e.g., Journalism, PR, Marketing, Social Sciences, Public Policy/Government/Politics, Strategy, Consulting, or similar)
  • 5+ years’ experience in communications and/or stakeholder engagement (advisory or consulting preferred), ideally in a client-facing role
  • Proven track record designing and delivering communication and engagement strategies that support change, build alignment, and enable informed decision-making, plus confidence facilitating workshops/consultations
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, able to translate complex or technical material into clear, audience-focused messages and produce high-quality outputs (briefings, reports, presentations, messaging frameworks)
  • Strong consulting behaviours: relationship-building with diverse stakeholders (including senior levels), ability to manage multiple workstreams with autonomy, proactive and organised approach, and a sustainability mindset aligned with Arup’s purpose (experience in public sector/infrastructure/regulated contexts is a plus)
