Arup Belgrade is offering an exciting opportunity for a talented Environmental Engineer to join the Arup Belgrade Team in Serbia, and professionally develop through working on wide range of projects funded by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) International, Financial Institutions (IFIs) and other Clients in Serbia and abroad.

We are advising our clients during development stages, in assessment of environmental impacts of planned developments and in development of mitigation measures and management plans to minimise negative impacts. We are also engaged in inspecting, monitoring, and auditing the construction activities, ensuring that the mitigation measures adopted are properly implemented and that the negative environmental and social impacts of the project are minimized. Arup is also advising the stakeholders on measures to strengthen environmental and social performance in complying with IFIs requirements.

The position offers suitable candidates a unique opportunity to gather unparalleled private sector environmental risk management experience in emerging markets, to work in the field, and to be exposed to the wider operations of the Arup Group.

  

The Opportunity

At Arup's office in Belgrade, you will collaborate with experts to assess and mitigate environmental risks, from advising clients in the early stages of a project to overseeing the implementation of environmental protection measures. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in the field, gain experience in managing environmental risks, and ensure compliance with international standards, while directly impacting the sustainability of projects. 

As an Environmental Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Assist with the planning and delivery of projects across Serbia and abroad.
  • Provide environmental inputs for projects and advice to our clients.
  • Coordinate and undertake environmental reviews and assessments as part of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Environmental and Social Due Diligences (ESDD), and other types of projects.
  • Liaise and coordinate with Arup Belgrade and Arup Global colleagues, as well as local consultants and clients, through face-to-face and virtual meetings.
  • Visit project locations and perform site inspections to determine conditions at the site.
  • Work under supervision within a defined area of responsibility, which may include being responsible for specific parts of an environmental project or task.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.

  • Master or university degree in civil engineering, environmental management, or other disciplines relevant to management of environmental impacts in the built environment. 
  • Good communication skills essential for team-based working.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to explore new opportunities.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Have an interest in the area of environmental safeguard management in the field of the built environment.
  • Willing to travel both in country and internationally.
  • Driving licence and active driver (bonus).
