Job purpose

·       To be a member of multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver high quality engineering services designs. Manage timely delivery of designs and analysis to agreed cost constraints.

·       Take a prominent role in respect of the Building Physics, Microclimate and/or Wind elements of such projects in the production of calculations, analysis models, feasibility studies, reports etc.

·       Design of building projects, either new-build or refurbishment.

·       To develop in a supervisory role within the Environmental Physics & Wind Practice in India and mentoring more junior engineers within the Practice in India.

·       To project manage small – medium projects.

·       Working with a high degree of autonomy, reporting to your Line Manager and the UKIMEA TSS Group Leader as well as the particular Project Manager or Director in respect of project deliverables and performance.

·       Liaise with the wider Environmental Physics & Wind Practice and building services engineers throughout Arup.

·       Have contacts with external collaborators such as architects, clients, project managers, quantity surveyors and contractors and pro-actively engage with these potential Clients with a work-winning mindset.

 

Responsibilities

·       Perform numerical (CFD and DTM) analyses of both internal and external flow to support design decision (wind & thermal comfort, emission dispersion, ventilation, mechanical heating and cooling, building physics)

·       Use first-principles methods to solve bespoke challenges

·       Develop knowledge and skills in understanding and analysing local microclimates

·       Contribute to the development of digital tools and automated processes

·       Development of innovative designs.

·       Presentation of initial concepts in sketch form.

·       Assist in building and running models applying the appropriate physics for the application at hand

·       Assist in undertaking technical analysis and report on results

·       May be responsible for the internal project management of small – medium projects.

·       Receive and agree client briefing information – disseminate to your team.

·       Liaison with co-professionals and clients – responsible for representing this discipline in project meetings.

·       Pro-actively engage with potential Clients with a work-winning mindset.

 

Is the Role Right for you

·       The candidate should hold a first or advanced degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering or other recognised qualification within the construction industry

·       Be professionally qualified (chartered) and/or aspiring to registration.

·       6 to 8 years of relevant work experience. Data centre, hospital or laboratory sector experience would be an advantage.

·       Undertaking studies in Civil, Environmental, Structural, Mechanical, Building Engineering or other related discipline.

·       Exposure in CFD modelling (preferably using OpenFOAM).

·       Exposure to dynamic thermal and energy simulation software (i.e. EnergyPlus, IES, or other) is preferrable.

·       Experience in at least one programming language (preferably Python).

·       Exposure to design software packages (preferably Rhino and Revit).

·       Able to demonstrate innovative design ability, engineering skills and knowledge.

·       Able to quickly develop successful team relationships.

·       Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

·       Able to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines is essential.

·       Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal) and in English.

·       Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.

·       Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.

·       An interest in building Client relationships and winning work.
