The Opportunity
A great opportunity for a geotechnical engineer to be part of the specialist team of seismic and offshore geotechnical engineers has come up in Arup's London office. You will work on projects focusing on the energy and infrastructure sectors, working with colleagues across a range of disciplines including seismic engineering, structural engineering, nautical engineering and maritime engineering to deliver a wide range of services. You support the team to characterise site conditions, to design and analyse offshore wind and bridge foundations, and to plan onshore and offshore site investigations. Therefore, you should have a background in planning, supervising and interpreting ground investigations and laboratory test results.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
We are looking to speak with individuals with the following skills:
- Proficient in site response analysis and liquefaction assessment.
- Knowledge of industry standard numerical modelling software such as FLAC, LS-DYNA, and PLAXIS modelling dynamic soil-structure interaction problems.
- First-hand experience in the application of advanced soil constitutive models under cyclic loading conditions.
- Knowledge of using scripting and programming languages (e.g. Python, Javascript, FISH, Grasshopper).
- A post-graduate qualification (MSc or PhD) relevant to geotechnical and/or seismic engineering would be a benefit albeit not an absolute requirement.
