The Opportunity
We are expanding our civil engineering presence across the UK, but with a particular focus in Bristol, Cardiff and Winchester. The ideal candidate will fill a key role within these energetic and dynamic teams, collaborating across diverse and engaging projects. Geotechnics in the West Region is a growing and interconnected group, currently counting 43+ enthusiastic professional staff, working on a wide variety of exciting, high-profile, and challenging projects. Our current and forward-looking workload includes a mix of iconic and world-class rail, highways, offshore energy, maritime, and buildings projects. Is this role right for you?
Working within the Geotechnical Team, you will be primarily involved in geotechnical analysis and design, report writing, and production of drawings and specifications. You will also take an active role in mentoring and managing our junior members of the team and promote skill sharing across disciplines.
You will have a good understanding of soil mechanics principles and geotechnical engineering and their application in the built environment with the critical thinking skills to assess the buildability of the designs you prepare. Your excellent report writing capabilities are underpinned by the strong interpersonal skills which make to effective in working in a team in the buildings and infrastructure sectors.
Requirements:
- Experience in and enthusiasm for digital technologies applicable to geotechnical engineering is desirable, for example, the use of finite element software, GIS, programming (especially in python), and data (management, processing, and visualisation).
- Site experience, overseeing site investigation, and construction of geotechnical designs are essential.
- There will be ample opportunity to develop existing knowledge and capabilities, and potentially a technical specialism within the group framework.
To achieve in this role, you will have…
- A Logical and methodical approach supported by strong numerical and analytical ability;
- Geotechnical design and construction skills including shallow and deep foundations, slopes, basements, and bridges
- Ability to relate and work well with people at all levels within the Infrastructure Group and within the wider office and West Region, as well as externally with clients and contractors;
- Flexible and mobile; i.e. prepared to travel away from home office;
- MEng Civil Engineering or civils-based degree with postgraduate qualification in a geotechnical related subject, eg Soil Mechanics.
