Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates and students who help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

Our Structural Engineering team collaborates closely with colleagues across Arup's global network, regularly partnering with other offices to deliver complex, high-profile projects while sharing knowledge and technical expertise. We work primarily with architects and multidisciplinary project teams, including specialists in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustics, geotechnical engineering, and advanced technology. Sustainability is embedded in our design approach, and we work alongside sustainability specialists to track project carbon and influence material selection. Our project portfolio spans a diverse range of market sectors, including property, arts and culture, science and technology, industry and manufacturing, healthcare, aviation, and rail, providing opportunities to contribute to projects that shape communities. Graduate engineers can expect to develop a broad technical foundation while working collaboratively with experienced colleagues and contributing to innovative, sustainable designs.

The opportunity 

  • Design structural systems and perform structural analysis
  • Work with project teams to develop sustainable solutions to built environment challenges
  • Deliver structural engineering drawings, calculations, reports, sketches and presentations
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties; Learn and implement software and technology skills


Is this role right for you?            

  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering
  • Coursework in structural analysis, advanced steel design and advanced reinforced concrete design
  • Professional demeanor
  • Skills in planning and organizing
  • Ability to perform in a deadline environment
  • Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way
  • Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
  • FE/ EIT certification preferred
  • Coursework in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering preferred
  • Structural software skills, Revit skills, 3D modeling skills (Rhino, SketchUp, etc.), coding skills (MySQL, Python, etc) , AutoCAD skills preferred
  • Past internship with a design firm or extracurricular activity in the field preferred
  • Past history of technical presentations and technical writing preferred
  • Personal engagement in an academic, volunteer or extracurricular field preferred;
  • Ability to visually communicate through a variety of media preferred    

To be considered for a graduate opportunity, your application must include a copy of your cv/resume and meet the following criteria: 

  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future 
  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role 
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts

San Francisco Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $79,500 to $86,500 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
