In an increasingly competitive marketplace, our Marketing, Communications, and Business Development (MCBD) team enables Arup to build and protect our reputation, deepen client relationships, win quality work, and attract top talent. This role will be key in achieving our strategic market and client ambitions. We are seeking to hire a Head of Digital Marketing and Social Media - Global to strengthen our MCBD function.
The Head of Digital Marketing and Social Media - Global will develop and implement Arup’s digital marketing strategy and lead a team of professionals responsible for our global web, social media, marketing automation and marketing data management capabilities. This is a critical role within the integrated MCBD function, particularly in the context of our strategic ambitions to build a stronger global brand and more effective go-to-market programmes.


Digital Marketing – Strategy and Planning
• Develop and lead implementation of a multi-year, multi-channel digital marketing strategy, aligned with Arup’s Strategy and Integrated Business Plan, to increase brand visibility, drive business growth, and enhance engagement by our priority audiences across all digital platforms.
• Lead, optimise and monitor performance across all digital platforms and channels, sharing insights with global and regional teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Manage relationships with external digital and creative agencies, ensuring alignment with brand strategy, campaign objectives, and performance expectations. Oversee agency deliverables, contracts, and evaluation processes to maintain quality and strategic coherence
Team Leadership and Collaboration
• Lead and mentor a small team of specialists who themselves lead our digital marketing centres of excellence and marketing technology stack, including but not limited to web (Optimizely), email (Marketo) and social comms (organic and paid).
• Work collaboratively with regional digital marketing leaders and with global marketing colleagues to ensure efficient and effective delivery of planned marketing activity and a consistent brand voice.
• Foster a One Arup culture of cross-functional working, continuous learning, and the agile adoption of innovative approaches and best practice.
Marketing Data Management, Analysis and Reporting – Strategy and Planning
• Develop and oversee implementation of a multi-year marketing data management plan, working collaboratively with our Digital Technology Group’s data team and with the Global Client Systems Lead.
• Lead implementation of annual programmes of work to advance our marketing data management, analysis and reporting.
• Evaluate AI tools and technologies and their potential to enhance marketing efforts and impact, leading on tool/ technology selection and adoption, and working collaboratively with others within MCBD and our Digital Technology Group’s data team.
• Continuously monitor and research emerging digital marketing trends and evolutions in user behaviour, translating insights into actionable strategies and plans to enhance the effectiveness of Arup’s digital marketing and social media outputs.
• Lead analysis of, and reporting on, the performance of our digital channels and platforms, ensuring implementation of an effective programme of reporting designed to inform decision making by MCBD and Business and Markets leaders.
Marketing and Communications Operations
• Contribute to the development and successful implementation and management of a marketing and communications scheduling system, working collaboratively with the Head of Corporate Communications to ensure scheduling supports our businesses and services.
• Develop and implement digital marketing and social communications annual planning and scheduling processes, ensuring these integrate seamlessly with wider global marketing and communications scheduling tools that will be developed and overseen by the Head of Global Marketing – Strategy and Planning and the Head of Global Corporate Communications.


Qualifications and accreditation
Undergraduate or further degree in Marketing, Communications, Management and/or postgraduate professional relevant qualification or accreditation.
Knowledge and experience
• Previous experience in a senior marketing or communications role, with a proven track record in planning, delivery and measurement of digital marketing and/or social media strategies.
• Proven experience in driving organic and paid digital marketing to deliver improved performance.
• Strong understanding of digital marketing concepts and best practices and an appetite to update knowledge as needed. Demonstrable ability of reviewing and revising marketing plans and programmes of activity in response changes in digital marketing trends and user behaviour, including application of new technology.
• Experience in data-driven decision-making, with the proven ability to translate insights from data into actionable strategies and tactics.
• Experience in people management, including resource allocation and skills development.
• Strong understanding of data privacy regulations and data security protocols.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and influencing.
• Proven ability to build positive, trust-based working relationships with reports, peers, leaders and other stakeholders.
• Strong team leadership and management skills, with experience of resource management as well as mentoring and developing marketing and communications professionals.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• High level of personal integrity, professionalism, and inclusive leadership. Commitment to exemplifying Arup’s aims, particularly those of being a ‘humane organisation’, maintaining ‘quality of work’, and ‘straight and honorable dealings’.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in the United States/Canada is $180,000 to $215,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of the United States/Canada will differ.
