The Opportunity
Arup is seeking to employ a Health and Safety Manager for a major infrastructure project in the Dublin area. The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring the project is designed and constructed in such a way that the risk to the health and safety of all persons engaged in, or affected by its construction, use and maintenance are eliminated or reduced in so far as is reasonably practicable, taking into account that delivery will be carried out in a live urban environment. The role holder will be responsible for ensuring all design, construction, testing and commissioning works will be carried out in compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005; Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 to 2020, and all other current applicable Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidance. In addition, the role holder will be required to assist the Client in complying with the duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
The Health and Safety Manager will support the Design and Technical Services Lead in leading the Health and Safety sub-functional area on the project, assuming responsibility for the performance management of project personnel deployed within the sub-functional area and leading the continuous drive towards a high-performance culture. The role holder will be required to develop and maintain a detailed resourcing plan for the Health and Safety sub-functional area and will oversee the day-to-day activities of the project personnel deployed within the sub-functional area, ensuring they are carrying out their relevant tasks efficiently and effectively to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
As a Health and Safety Manager at Arup, you will:
Develop and maintain an ISO 45001 compliant Safety Management System for the client partner project team.
Oversee the implementation of the Safety Management System for the client partner project team.
Develop and maintain a detailed resourcing plan for the client partner project team and oversee the day-to-day activities of the project personnel deployed within the client partner project team, ensuring they are carrying out their relevant tasks efficiently and effectively to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
Promote a positive safety culture within the client project team and on the overall project.
Ensure the project is designed and constructed so that the risk to the health and safety of all persons engaged in, or affected by its construction, use and maintenance are eliminated or reduced in so far as is reasonably practicable, taking into account that delivery will be carried out in a live urban environment.
Ensure all design, construction, testing and commissioning works will be carried out in compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005; Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013; Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 to 2020, and all other current applicable Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidance.
Assist the Client in complying with the duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
Support the Design and Technical Services Lead in leading the Health and Safety for the client partner project team on the project, assuming responsibility for the performance management of project personnel deployed within the for the client partner project team and leading the continuous drive towards a high-performance culture.

It is desirable for the Health and Safety Manager to possess the following skills:

Fully proficient in the use of MS Office applications and other project tools and methodologies;

Ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and deliver consistent service;

Ability to manage client expectations and deliver within agreed parameters; and
Ability to work in a challenging environment both on their own initiative and as part of a team.
Formal Education Qualifications:
Required to have a bachelor’s degree in a construction-related subject (or equivalent).
A 3rd level Health and Safety qualification.
Practicing / Training / Compliance Certification
NEBOSH or equivalent is desirable.
Safepass accreditation is desirable.
Professional Memberships:
Chartered member of a health and safety organisation (e.g., IOSH) is desirable.
