We are seeking to recruit a motivated Leader to accelerate the growth of our High Voltage Transmission and Distribution (T&D) business in Ireland as a key element of our regional and global energy business ambition.
In Europe, Arup provides multi-disciplinary engineering solutions, advisory and professional consulting services from 36 offices across 12 countries. We operate 5 offices in Ireland, providing services across the energy, water, resources, transport, science, industry and technology sectors. Arup also has offices in North America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated, inspirational and determined leader for our Ireland T&D business. The candidate is expected to expand our current energy sector activities in Ireland, develop client relationships (identifying opportunities to satisfy their needs) and expand our presence in the marketplace, using the best of our local and global expertise.
Working closely with European and global colleagues this role will identify, prioritize and pursue addressable market opportunities in High Voltage Electricity Networks, including system studies, network upgrades, export and demand grid connections, system resilience, energy storage, and interconnection projects.
The role will ideally be based in our Dublin office. We expect all leaders to be office-based for minimum three days per week to support growth of a cohesive, strong, effective, and well-mentored teams.
As a High Voltage L&D Leader at Arup, you will:
Strategic business planning: identification of addressable growth markets, market differentiation, growth and investment planning, to deliver agreed commercial outcomes.
Client relationship development: maximizing existing relationships, identifying and engaging new high value clients, both nationally and internationally.
Cultivate existing and new relationships with clients and partners.
Exercise industry contacts and professional networks to expand existing service offering and revenue, including acquisition and exercising of framework positions.
Utilise our marketing function to enhance our profile, reputation, credibility and presence within target markets.
Lead and contribute to the development of a convertible pursuit pipeline through a combination of contemporary market intelligence, industry trends, market conditions, competitive landscape and horizon scanning, and client feedback
Drive proactive, well-orchestrated pursuit of priority targets, and high quality bids that fully demonstrate our value to clients
Win new and repeat work through relationship-building and pre-bid engagement, and deliver projects.
Engage, inspire, mentor and encourage your colleagues, supporting their development and enabling them to achieve their best while reinforcing high expectations.
Identify and recruit key staff aligned with Arup’s strategic growth plan for our energy business.
Engage with international colleagues to arrange international secondments of energy team staff in support of our European energy business growth and the career progression of individuals.
Does this role inspire you?
The preferred candidate will have the following experience and capability:
Mature and strong industry networks and reputation in Ireland.
A broad background and experience would be valued, including previous consultancy, utility, developer, investor, government, regulator, OEM and/or contractor roles with a clear recognition how this experience pays into this professional consultancy services role.
15+ years of industry experience in the energy sector with the most recent 5 years being immersed in the T&D market with strong industry links and personal market profile.
A solid track record securing revenue from public and private sector clients such as utilities, developers, government and corporate clients.
Regular participation in industry panels, speaking at professional conferences as well as encouraging and enabling colleagues across the grade structure to do the same, raising our profile and uncovering opportunities.
A collaborative, sharing and generous nature, recognizing that the role is about catalyzing a broad team to achieve success, therefore finding reward in enabling and enhancing success of the overall team is critical.
Extensive proficiency in delivery of advisory or engineering services to energy clients, well versed in acquisition and delivery of consultancy services.
Experience in the preparation and overseeing of financial targets, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance to meet revenue, cashflow and profit targets.
A proven track record delivering or exceeding client satisfaction, maintaining strong relationships, responding effectively to their needs.
Technical experience in energy advisory, engineering, design, execution and operations phases.
Experience of working internationally, and with international partners.
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
Post-graduate education in management or similar demonstration of high performance, informed management awareness, technique and delivery.
Proven experience leading and inspiring staff to achieve business outcomes over and above what they initially thought was possible, including stretch business revenue and profitability targets, client satisfaction, team growth and market presence.
Confident, articulate communication style and delivery tuned to C-suite and other senior level audiences as well as clear written, visual and presentational skills to a range of audiences.
Excellent remote leadership and inter-personal skills essential for team-based working with European and international colleagues, clients, collaborators.
Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment.
Highly self-motivated, proactive, enthused by challenge, and able to instill similar traits in colleagues.
Well organized, successful deliverer of various tasks outputs and outcomes through self-delivery, appropriate delegation and positive engagement of peer colleagues.
Able to lead technical project work, relying on experience and judgement to assess the work, plan its successful delivery, pivot where needed and accomplish goals.
Have managerial (not necessarily operational) knowledge of primary energy industry software tools.
Work authorization with potential to obtain work authorization on a business trip basis for European countries.
Hold current professional body member affiliations in Ireland or globally.
