The Opportunity

We are excited to welcome an Intern to join our Cities, Planning, and Design team at Arup in the Netherlands! The internship start date is flexible, with opportunities to begin either after summer 2025 (September/October) or at the beginning of 2026 (January/February).

As an Intern in Transport or Urban Planning or Urban Design, you’ll collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of experts committed to shaping a sustainable future. Guided by experienced mentors, you’ll contribute to impactful projects such as stations and hubs, active and smart mobility initiatives, strategic planning, and urban design—all aiming to enhance our cities.

Based in our vibrant Amsterdam office, you’ll work in a dynamic and collaborative space, surrounded by a diverse team of Dutch and international colleagues and connected to Arup’s global network.

 

As an Internship / Graduate Assignment at Arup, you will:

Our aim is to empower you to fully leverage your imagination, technical expertise, and experience to achieve remarkable outcomes. Together, we will design a tailored internship or graduation assignment that aligns with your goals and aspirations. With the mentorship and support of senior colleagues, you’ll have opportunities to develop your skills in areas such as:

  • Development of sustainable and innovative traffic, transport systems, and active mobility planning.
  • Planning and design of stations, hubs, and pedestrian infrastructure, including modelling.
  • Smart mobility solutions such as shared mobility, zero-emission zones, and road user charging.
  • Agent-based modelling, transport modelling, data analysis, programming, and integrating mobility with urban planning and design.
  • Translating plans into spatial designs with a focus on integral and holistic approaches.

  • Currently completing at least the second year of study in Built Environment.
  • Proficient in Dutch and/or English (B2-C level, verbal and written).
  • Passionate about designing cities, villages, and infrastructure for optimal impact.
  • Motivated, eager to learn, and skilled in critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and thrives in a collaborative, international environment, aligning with Arup's ethos and values.
