Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Amsterdam

Arup is an independent, international engineering consultancy founded on the idea that the built environment can change and improve people's lives. Our mission statement is therefore not without reason: 'We shape a better world'. In 2025, we celebrate 25 years of advising our clients in solving complex design challenges in the Netherlands. We do this by using our extensive expertise and our global network of 94 offices in 34 countries. Every day, we work with over 18,000 colleagues on innovative and sustainable projects in the built environment; from urban area development, building design and renovation, to infrastructural assignments and projects in industry and technology, education, art and culture.

As part of our Infrastructure team, you will contribute to the preservation, improvement and renewal of infrastructure and to large scale developments and high rise buildings in the Netherlands. Leading projects such as the replacement and renovation of the Van Brienenoord Bridge and studies for extensions of the Amsterdam public transport network (Amsterdam - Haarlemmermeer and Sloterdijk – Amsterdam centrum). You will be part of a leading team of designers and engineers, collaborating with Arup colleagues in Europe and beyond.

The Opportunity

As a junior geotechnical engineer, you contribute to the design and engineering of bridges, civil structures and buildings. You will prepare desk studies, plan ground investigations, interpret factual data and develop ground models from geotechnical surveys, conduct geotechnical analyses and perform calculations using finite element methods. You will apply the latest techniques and contribute to the further digitalisation and automation of our analyses and calculations. Based on your analyses, you will provide valuable geotechnical advice to project teams, helping shape design decisions. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will receive guidance from experienced engineers, ensuring a supportive learning environment to further develop your skills. In doing so, you use the global knowledge available within Arup; you will be part of a culture of cooperation and knowledge sharing. This is how we stay ahead in a rapidly changing world.
