MEP Leader 

Copenhagen, Denmark

Our MEP team in Copenhagen is a core driver of Arup's commitment to sustainable development. The team consists of eight highly skilled engineers specializing in electrical, mechanical, fire engineering and BIM. You will lead this multidisciplinary team on technically complex and mission-critical projects, helping deliver next-generation digital infrastructure for global clients. 

  

The Opportunity 

There are two elements to this role. The first is to act as an MEP Design Manager on a range of large-scale, multidisciplinary projects, the majority of your time will be spent in this role. The second, but of equal importance, is to act as the MEP Team Leader for Arup’s Copenhagen office. 

As an MEP Design Manager, you will be responsible for the design and coordination of MEP (combined services) from initial brief through scheme & detail design to installation and commissioning. This is a leadership role, requiring deep technical knowledge, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to steer MEP design. You’ll work closely with clients, architects, and project managers, ensuring our designs meet not just performance goals, but also environmental, resilience, and operational targets. 

As the MEP team leader, you will guide, influence and supervise the MEP Team, as their main senior support for skills training and career development. Monitoring and proactively promoting their wellbeing is also a key aspect of this role.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for:        

As MEP Design Manager, you will be responsible for: 

  • Managing and coordinating the multi-disciplinary Arup MEP project team and external sub-consultants  
  • Lead MEP design on major data centre and industry projects from early-stage concept through detailed design and construction support  
  • Reporting project progress to senior management, overseeing MEP quality performance and internal fee tracking 
  • Manage multidisciplinary engineering input and BIM modelling workflows using tools like Revit  
  • Communicating and interfacing with the client, contractor and their consultants Leading and directing MEP discussions with contractors as the client representative.   
  • Reviewing contractor’s design submissions, procedures, schedules etc. to ensure compliance with contract documents   
  • Ensuring that all designs and documents are prepared to the highest quality standards 
  • Compiling multi-disciplinary project reports in collaboration with the respective MEP discipline leads 
  • Ensure compliance with Uptime Institute Tier III/IV, ASHRAE, ISO 19650, and Arup’s internal quality and sustainability standards  
  • Champion innovation and digital solutions that improve delivery and performance  
  • Business development, including working in bids and tenders for new projects. 

As MEP Team Leader: 

  • Mentoring and development of junior and intermediate engineers in your team and in the Group.   
  • Support the general wellbeing of your team members, while manage their absences, formal trainings, and others.  
  • Resources planning of the MEP team, in coordination with Project Managers   
  • Support and promote the skills development of your team members  
  • Collaborate with Arup’s wider global MEP and expertise networks to share knowledge and drive continuous improvement 

 

Does this role inspire you? 

We're looking for:

  • a Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar 
  • Minimum 15 years post-qualification design and construction experience  
  • Experience in managing design delivery across sectors  
  • Technically excellent with in-depth knowledge of relevant standards and regulations in Europe, and preferably in Denmark.  
  • Experience in leading MEP and multidisciplinary teams on large scale projects, from design through to construction, commissioning, and handover   
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget  
  • Good communication skills. Excellent spoken and written English.   
  • Experience in data centres is preferred  
  • Ability to communicate in any Scandinavian language is preferred
