Primary focus    

This role requires a high level of major project commercial experience founded on digital, sharing best practice. The role requires an agile approach to accommodate and support both major projects and business operations

Key Responsibilities    

  • Responsible for active involvement in major projects in NSW/ACT in the capacity of Commercial Manager. Will take up billable full-time project roles on complex Joint Ventures, D&C projects, and Alliances. 
  • Acts as a conduit through which best practice is shared, designed, and implemented at project level.
  • Supports the NSW Commercial Leader in the early planning of project based commercial management support, highlighting need, identification of opportunities and supporting position holders in the use of consistent, enterprise grade, digital commercial solutions, and approaches. 
  • Responsible to Major Project Director and Project Manager when working on Projects.
  • Identification of commercial project staffing risks and build resiliency
  • Generous sharing of lessons learned, experiences and personal IP to the betterment of the major project and state commercial teams over time. Encourage and empower others to share their IP and experiences for the betterment of the Region.
  • Reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and increased efficiency based on the principles of marginal gains

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in engineering, construction, or commercial management, ideally with consultancy background or major infrastructure project experience. 
  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Quantity Surveying or similar area.
  • Relevant commercial management experience within a consulting business environment.
  • Proficiency in software such as MS Excel and MS Project 
  • Relevant experience in client side (contractor) commercial management that will assist the successful execution of this role.  
  • Extensive experience in major project commercial management, including Joint Ventures, Design & Construct and Alliance delivery models.
  • Deep involvement in dispute strategy, claims preparation, negotiation, conflict resolution and settlement with external parties.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including understanding of economic and political trends impacting the local market.
  • Experience developing and leading winning business and operating strategies aligned to organisational objectives.
  • Established technical and client networks, acting as a focal point for local client relationship management.
  • Track record of representing organisations at senior levels nationally and/or internationally.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with emerging industry and market trends.
  • Strong digital first mindset, with consistent application of digital commercial systems and processes.
