The Opportunity

Do you find purpose in connecting the digital with the physical world? As a Senior BIM Technician / BIM Manager you will lead the digital delivery of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary design and construction teams across all project phases, ensuring coordination, issues and actions are resolved by the appropriate stakeholder and reflected in the federated Models, BIM and CAD deliverables.

You will work on some of the most exciting and innovative buildings across the world with our architects. The team are currently involved with over 100 projects world-wide from concept design through to practical completion. Current and recent projects include commercial, residential and social infrastructure projects including Bishop Square, Canada Water, Silk Street and New Bridge Street.

You will be a key part of a multidisciplinary, combined team of 200+ Engineers and Technicians within the wider North Region. Our projects are global and will allow you to work with and succeed in an international, multi-cultural business environment with a strong focus on sustainability in all we do.

BIM Leadership

  • Help lead the current CAD/BIM team and be responsible for developing the skill base within the team to meet future needs in a BIM environment, including assisting in training and recruitment.
  • Help manage the BIM and CAD resources across Arup's UK North region, liaising with project managers to ensure projects are adequately staffed and work closely with our Structural and MEP BIM teams to Set up and lead Virtual Design Reviews on projects, contribute to Digital Inception
  • Plans and to develop modelling techniques that maximize the benefit of a multi-disciplinary approach to design and modelling.
  • You will be responsible for predicting and planning future resources;
  • You may be overseeing the performance and development of others.  This would require you to provide guidance, training, motivation and direction to staff.

BIM Knowledge

  • Maintain a full understanding of the capabilities of modelling software such as Revit, Tekla etc and what they can offer now and into the future. This will include the development of new working practices in BIM, Review, monitor and improve the office BIM and CAD standards in line with global Arup standards.
  • Participate in research, data analysis, and fact-checking processes to promote accurate reporting. Work with subject matter experts to gather insights and content. Focus on report structure, formatting, and adherence to style guidelines. Assist in reviewing and editing reports for grammar, clarity, and coherence. Participate in report delivery to stakeholders, engaging in follow-up discussions and action plans.
  • Support the development and enforcement of BIM standards and protocols.

BIM Projects

  • You will be accountable for significant and complex activities or projects, ensures model deliveries according to timeline and resources
  • Represent the team or group at external meetings, including leading coordination meetings. The role may be involved in developing events, activities and internal projects of some complexity.
  • Partner with the team to assist in leading Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation for projects and teams, gaining foundational knowledge in BIM processes.
  • Assist in collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors to create BIM models and ensuring data consistency and coordination between disciplines.
  • Actively promotes use of automation on all projects whenever permissible
  • Creates BEP and ensures compliance from team
  • Initiates an efficient workflow and leads in implementation by wider team
  • Ensures adherence to Arup Management System procedures
  • Facilitates set-up of project models that could be used in analysis and calculations
  • Conducts model external reviews and clash resolutions
  • Reviews and ensures models are according to industry/project/company standards
  • Provides technical support to less experienced staff/s
  • Evaluates new BIM tools prior to deployment
  • Manages clients expectations on LOD requirements against project scope and delivery

Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for a candidate who:

  • Has a chartered status or working towards this
  • Has relevant working experience in 2D drawing production / 3D parametric modelling of project information models
  • Possesses good knowledge and skill in Revit and building services modelling
  • Has expertise in management or leading a teams
  • Has proficient technical skills in CAD/BIM and design review applications such as Navisworks
  • Has programming skills in Dynamo
  • Is knowledgeable in BIM software interoperability with other engineering design software
  • Is familiar with industry standards, ISO 19650, LOD requirements
