LON0004Q1 Requisition #

Joining Arup

Our national ports & maritime community, with a core team based in our London office, has been specialising in maritime and coastal schemes for over three decades.  Our ports & maritime business is growing year by year, led by a dynamic team of passionate engineers.  Climate change and the global shift to net-zero have huge implications for the infrastructure that serve the industry. Our ambition is to cement Arup as consultant of choice in a fast pace changing sector with complex technical challenges and evolving new markets.

A key anchor service offer in our plan is coastal resilience. Sea level rise, coastal erosion, flooding and coastal change are existential threats to low-lying land, cities, towns and villages. We are working with inspirational clients creating transformational approaches to how flood and coastal risk management is delivered and we are excited to be expanding our team to support the delivery of our diverse range of projects.

Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

We are opening a new role in our maritime engineering community for an individual with experience in coastal geomorphology.  You will be driving technical excellence and working collaboratively in the creation of design solutions that challenge the status quo in the coastal environment.  The role will involve working across a wide range of projects; for some you may lead producing desktop studies, concept designs and detailed designs; for others you will be part of a large multidisciplinary team of engineers, economists, climate scientists and architects reshaping coastal zones.  You will be creating project documentation such as reports and specifications, supervising numerical modelling and contributing to design drawings at different project stages.  Supported by technical specialists, you will be delegating and upskilling more junior members of our global coastal engineering community.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for the following skills and knowledge:

  • A relevant degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or Marine Sciences and ideally Chartered Engineer status with a relevant Professional Institution.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering high quality coastal engineering solutions and providing coastal morphology advice
  • Skills  in the specification and supervision of numerical modelling, preferably related to coastal morphology and sediment transport. Running of numerical modelling desirable.
  • A creative approach to problem solving with a focus on continual improvement and delivering sustainable and value led project outcomes.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with a great attention to detail.
  • An ability for story telling, tailoring communication to the audience both orally and in written form
