Join our NSW Environment team as an Ecologist, applying your ecology and biodiversity expertise across a broad range of projects and statutory approval processes throughout New South Wales. Working across sectors including transport, energy, water, waste and urban development, you will contribute to ecological assessments that support major infrastructure, development and strategic planning projects.

This opportunity is particularly suited to someone with experience supporting transport and energy projects and a sound understanding of NSW biodiversity legislation and approval frameworks. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you'll help deliver high-quality technical outcomes, navigate complex approval pathways, and develop practical, sustainable solutions that create positive outcomes for clients, communities and the environment.

The Opportunity

• Deliver ecological assessments and biodiversity inputs for infrastructure, development, and strategic planning projects across NSW. 
• Undertake and coordinate field investigations, including vegetation integrity assessments, habitat surveys, targeted species surveys, and ecological baseline studies. 
• Prepare technical reports and documentation, including biodiversity constraints assessments, BARs/BDARs and biodiversity due diligence advice. 
• Support Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) projects through data collection, analysis, mapping coordination, reporting, and technical review. 
• Collaborate with planners, environmental specialists, designers, and stakeholders while contributing to proposals, client discussions, and project delivery activities.

Is this role right for you?

• A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Zoology, or a related discipline.  
• Approximately 4 to 8 years of experience in ecological consulting, government, or a related environmental field.  
• Demonstrated experience delivering ecological assessments, biodiversity surveys and technical biodiversity reporting for projects within NSW.
• Working knowledge of relevant NSW and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation, policies, and guidelines, including the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM), and EPBC Act.  
• Strong communication, fieldwork, project coordination, and report-writing skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining a high standard of quality and attention to detail.
