Senior Environmental Consultant

Dublin, Ireland

Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Ireland.

Arup's purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment.

We are a global consultancy with extensive technical and advisory expertise. Our planning and environmental team works across infrastructure, transport, energy, and the built environment helping clients navigate complex regulatory frameworks and deliver sustainable outcomes that genuinely serve communities.

The Opportunity

The position is for a Senior Environmental Consultant to work within the Environmental team in Ireland.  You will deliver impact assessments for projects at all levels, including major national infrastructure (transport, water, industrial and energy sectors) and urban development projects. Clients will include private developers, public sector authorities and other organisations. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary environment alongside other environmental, planning, engineering and urban design specialists, and will work closely with technical disciplines (both internal and external to Arup) to deliver high quality environmental consultancy services.

As a Senior Environmental Consultant at Arup, you will:

  • Lead environmental integration — embedding early-stage environmental assessment and planning considerations into major projects and policy submissions, ensuring statutory requirements and best practice are identified and addressed from the outset.

  • Provide expert environmental planning advice — applying your deep knowledge of environmental legislation, impact assessment frameworks, and planning policy to guide the client's decision-making across a varied and fast-moving programme of infrastructure projects.

  • Project manage multi-disciplinary environmental studies — coordinating and leading teams of technical specialists across ecology, heritage, noise, air quality, water, and other environmental disciplines to deliver integrated, high-quality assessments on programme.

  • Build and develop client relationships — acting as Arup's primary environmental contact within the client organisation, building trust at all levels, and identifying opportunities to broaden and deepen the partnership.

  • Contribute to Arup's environmental practice — sharing knowledge and insights from this embedded position to support the wider team, and contributing to business development in environmental consulting in Ireland.

Does this role inspire you?

You will be a motivated, enthusiastic and competent individual with existing environmental consultancy experience. You will require the following knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Academic background: Degree in an environmental discipline or planning with a strong environmental component, or equivalent professional qualification and experience; Chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. IEMA, CIEEM/CEcol, CIWEM, IPI/RTPI) is strongly preferred.

  • Professional experience: More than 8+ years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, planning, or a closely related field, with a demonstrable track record on infrastructure or major development projects.

  • Environmental legislation and impact assessment: Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation and proven experience applying relevant law, policy, and guidance in the context of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), or equivalent frameworks.

  • Project and team leadership: Proven track record of project managing environmental commissions successfully, including coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary teams of technical specialists to deliver on time and to quality standards.

  • Client-facing and delivery-focused: You manage competing priorities effectively across multiple concurrent projects, maintaining quality and momentum in a dynamic, client-facing environment; experience working in embedded or seconded roles is an advantage.
