Arup offers the full spectrum of highway engineering consulting services.  You will be a key member of the Arup highways team where your previous experience in road infrastructure projects will enhance the team’s portfolio of skills and expertise.  This role encompasses a broad range of design skills which are key components to the successful delivery of projects. You will:

  • Lead road alignment design for major urban and rural highways as well as local roads and other projects
  • Prepare high-quality 3D models using the 12d Model software package and its features in accordance with relevant design standards and project requirements, and communicate the outcomes.
  • Delegate to, direct, and review works by junior designers and engineers, train and develop their skills
  • Actively pursue design excellence, contribute to skills networks and Arup systems’ continuous improvement

The Opportunity

  • You will be responsible for preparing designs and supporting the junior designers on a variety of transport, energy, water, and site development projects for a range of clients that may include government agencies, construction contractors and private developers.
  • Your responsibilities will include the preparation of designs, 3d modelling, drafting, and technical documentation production.
  • You will be accountable for design activities and managing the alignment design delivery to the agreed programme timeframes and project budgets.
  • You will be capable of developing and leading the implementation of a variety of technical solutions to technical problems and preparing 3d models to describe roadworks and access, and bulk earthworks.
  • You will actively support the learning/development of junior alignment designers, collaborate with Team Leaders to identify and skills gap, and contribute to targeted skill development activities.
  • You will use 3d models to develop coordinated designs in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and road safety guidelines

Is this role right for you?

  • Hold a recognised, relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Hold membership of a relevant professional institution or working towards eligibility for membership and continued personal development.
  • Extensive knowledge of road alignment design, including familiarity with current industry standards for parking, roads and street including Transport for Main Roads, Austroads and Australian Standards.
  • Experience in applying TMR standards to help shape design solutions on large infrastructure projects at all stages of delivery (planning, detailed design, contract documentation), including production and review of thorough verification documentation to confirm alignment design performance and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Proficiency with the 12d Model software package and its features, and experience with BIM and drawing submissions to Qld TMR and other state and local road authority standards, are considered an advantage. 
  • Experience working on complex multidisciplinary projects, interacting with design teams, participating in design/model reviews, undertaking clash detection workflows, associated reporting, and managing the rectification process.
  • Understanding of 3d models prepared by other disciplines in other software packages, including 12d drainage models, 12d utility models, and experience in coordinating these elements.
  • Provide regular candid and constructive feedback to junior alignment designer staff to enhance their learning/development.
