Our award-winning landscape architecture practice is growing, with teams in Arup that are linked through a global network. With our headquarters in London and offices across the UK, we regularly work with our international studios including Hong Kong, New York, and Sydney. We are an integrated team of landscape designers and landscape planners, with projects including landscape assessment and strategy, LVIA, green infrastructure strategies, concept design, masterplanning, detailed design, landscape management, visualisations and 3D modelling. We work side by side with a wide range of Arup’s other specialist disciplines including urban design, ecology, town planning, digital technology, engineering, cost consulting and project management.
We have a diverse workload of high-profile projects across the UK and internationally, ranging in scale from environmental infrastructure design, major transportation projects through to restoration, town centre regeneration, streetscape design and green buildings.

Is this role right for you?
We’re currently looking for an Senior Landscape Planner (to join our team based in either our new offices in central Leeds/Sheffield and /or in London, which are all built for hybrid working.
You will drive the growth of landscape planning services across the UK (with a primary focus on the North and West Yorkshire Region), guiding teams and projects, collaborating with an unrivalled community of experts, who will mentor your growth. This role will require you to promote the professional development of others in the team and to direct on business development activities. The Arup project portfolio is exciting and diverse covering all aspects of landscape planning from policy to the development of strategies. This role will expose you to a range of project scales and types, each offering their own opportunity for tailored personal development. A key focus of the role will be on guiding on and writing LVIAs, including Development Consent Orders (DCO) for major projects, ensuring good design is embedded from the outset.
The suitable candidate will have a degree level qualification in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Management / CMLI accreditation with good knowledge of professional ethics and ethical framework.
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications, attributes, and skills as well as an exceptional report writing ability, and an interest in planning and assessment as part of an integrated design process.
We’re looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:
- Good comprehension of the UK planning system and how our work relates to it
- Demonstrable professional experience of landscape planning, particularly working in multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong team leadership and project and commercial management skills
- Articulate written communication with a strong track record in building relationships with clients and winning work
- Skills in stakeholder engagement
- Skills in managing projects and fee budgets, or a desire to develop the necessary skills.
- A strong working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS/Pro, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office. Focus on detail delivery and strong report writing skills are essential.
