Role

 

To be a member of multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver high quality engineering services designs. Supervising junior engineers and CAD staff.  Manage timely delivery of designs to agreed cost constraints.

Take a prominent role in respect of the building services elements of such projects in the production of calculations, drawings, tender documents, feasibility studies, condition reports etc.

Should be holding a relevant degree and be heading for professionally qualification (chartered) and aspiring to registration.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, reporting to the particular Project Manager or Director in respect of project deliverables and performance, under the technical management / supervision of the technical director. Liaise with other building services engineers throughout Arup.

Have contacts with external collaborators such as architects, clients, project managers, quantity surveyors and contractors. You will be in a position to Receive and agree on client briefing information and disseminate it to your team, need to Liaison with co-professionals and clients responsible for representing this discipline in project meetings and involve in the development of innovative designs, presentation of initial concepts in sketch form and production of specs/ drawings including briefing and supervision of engineers and BIM staff. You need to visit Site liaison and inspections and may be responsible for the internal project management of small-medium projects.

 

Your responsibilities

·        Conceptual design studies, preparation of sketches and report writing

·        Carry out mechanical design including but not limited to building analysis, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, specialist gas, water services, drainage and fire suppression systems

·        Reviewing design work of junior engineers

·        Mentoring and development of junior engineers in the group

·        Estimating and Cost Control on projects

·        Developing concepts, appraising and recommending optimum design solutions.

·        Ensuring that all designs and documents are prepared to the highest standards

·        Ensuring full co-ordination between specifications and drawings

·        Coordination of work with all members of design teams (architect, engineers of all disciplines, QS etc.)

·        Compilation of Specifications for Mechanical Services and Installations

·        Preparation of guidance documents

·        Preparation of contract documentation and specifications

·        Attendance at design team meetings

·        Attendance on site, completion of site inspections and site inspection reports

·        Compiling project reports

·        Participate in attending Factory Acceptance Test (FATs) for key plant and equipment.

·        Spend time on site during construction and commissioning to ensure successful project delivery.

·        Maintaining a wide array of professional relationships in the data centre industry (clients / suppliers / competitors, etc.)

·        Actively promote Arup capabilities through technical publications and participating in DC related events.

·        You should have basic knowledge of local and international codes & best engineering practices.

·        Develop the spatial and technical co-ordination of the building services and their integration into the building design.

·        Developing and encouraging sustainable building design on projects pushing the boundaries for data centre design.

·        Coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines including in-house specialists.

·        Working across multiple projects with different design teams.

·        Engage and develop technical skills of Mechanical design.

 

Your Education/Profile

·        Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics

·        Eligible for and working towards Chartered Engineer and/or Professional Engineer

·        Minimum 10 years post-qualification design experience

·        Technically excellent in the design of data centre, hospital, laboratory based HVAC, pressure cascades, specialist gases, understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice, in Industry, Healthcare and/or Third Level Education

·        Experience in a wide range of medium to large-scale projects

·        Experience in working in design teams

·        Developing and maintaining good relationships with industry networks and design team members relative to the team’s activities

·        Knowledge and interest in the implementation of sustainability measures in designs

·        Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes of practice

·        Proven team player

·        Organised and adaptable with a flexible approach to work

·        Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget

·        Competent in system design software

·        Ability to work in a BIM environment

·        Revit capabilities an advantage
