Given our growing business, Arup is looking for an accomplished Senior Rail Systems Engineer who wants to accelerate their career by joining our rail team in Seattle and playing an integral role in the growth of our Rail business in the Pacific Northwest. The Senior Rail Systems Engineer will focus on executing current rail project work as well as pursuit of new rail projects.
We're looking for someone to provide management and coordination to the design process by overseeing and directing the design and consulting teams from the Prime Consultant position, while working closely with our clients, interfacing projects and external bodies. You will bring strong analytical capability and the confidence to interface directly with clients and stakeholders in technical workshops and formal review settings. The position offers a stimulating and challenging project environment in which to develop personal skills, build the team’s capabilities and mentor early careers members.
The Opportunity
- Represent the Senior Integration Manager in the co-located project team, managing the day-to-day development of and delivery of integration activities, including design coordination, procurement support, construction oversight, and quality assurance.
- Support the Integration Manager’s leadership of the Integration Working Group coordinating the project’s activities with the agency’s wider program and interfacing and adjacent projects and systems.
- Working with rail systems and multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, geotechnical, architectural, MEP, tunneling, ventilation, and fire/life safety, define interface boundaries and support the definition of interfacing systems and devices.
- Develop, coordinate, release, and maintain the Project Interface and Integration Plan (PIIP), support the development of the PIIP products and the coordination and approval of the interface documents.
- Support project delivery by assisting with scope definition, schedule development, resource planning, and progress tracking.
- Contribute to business development through client relationship management, marketing coordination, and support of bids and proposals, including design‑build pursuits.

Is this role right for you?
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (mechanical or electrical preferred) with 5–10 years of experience delivering complex rail and transit systems in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong experience in rail systems engineering and design management, including requirements, standards, system integration, and assurance for large‑scale projects.
• Working knowledge of signaling systems (CBTC and conventional), rail operations, trackwork, and alignment; specialization is an advantage.
• Demonstrated understanding of RAMS, verification & validation, and relevant rail standards (e.g., CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, EN).
• Proven ability to lead and manage design teams, with understanding of client capital project drivers, procurement approaches, and design‑build delivery preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Seattle Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in is $140,000 to $160,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Seattle will differ.
