The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to work with delivery teams supporting major projects in India and the Middle East. We are an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. You will play a key role in the Rail Systems Team, drive the technical delivery and performance of rolling stock projects. You will report to the Rolling Stock Lead, assisting in the coordination of project activities, contributing technical expertise, and collaborating closely with other disciplines to ensure effective and integrated project delivery.
The successful candidate will be based in our Bangalore office supporting India and global teams (primarily in the Middle East).
Responsibilities would include but are not limited to
Rolling Stock Design & Delivery: Provide technical support for design and integration of locomotives, metro cars, EMUs, DMUs, and wagons from concept to commissioning.
Specifications & Standards: Develop and review technical specifications in compliance with RDSO, EN, UIC, BS, and client/operator requirements.
Subsystem Engineering: Assess mechanical and electrical systems including traction (with traction power interface), carbody, bogie, brakes, pneumatics, couplers, doors, and HVAC.
Assurance & Analysis: Support performance, stress, crashworthiness, dynamics, gauging, and RAMS assessments.
Design Integration: Coordinate with signalling, track, power, and systems teams to ensure seamless system interfaces.
Quality & Site Support: Review designs and provide QA oversight at manufacturing sites (carbody shells, bogie frames).
Regulatory & Stakeholder Liaison: Engage with authorities including RDSO and statutory bodies to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
Project Delivery & HSE: Ensure timely, high-quality project delivery aligned with health and safety standards.
Client & Team Engagement: Participate in workshops and client meetings, mentor junior engineers, and support business development initiatives.
Reporting, Sustainability & Innovation: Prepare technical documentation, conduct feasibility and sustainability studies, and promote the use of emerging technologies.
If this role right for you?
Bachelor’s degree (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree or specialisation in Railway Engineering is advantageous.
Minimum 10 years of post-graduate experience, with at least 5 years in rolling stock projects in India or internationally.
Solid experience in delivering rolling stock projects for Indian Railways, metro systems, or international rail clients.
Strong understanding of Indian (RDSO, IRS) and international (EN, UIC, BS, UAE, KSA) standards, as well as Indian regulatory and statutory approval procedures.
Experience engaging with clients and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
Familiarity with rolling stock procurement, requirements management, specification development, and supplier coordination.
Experience of working in Multi-D environment and with good interface skills.
Experience in developing and reviewing technical documentation, test reports, and compliance submissions.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Overseas Travel: Willingness to travel within India and internationally for project delivery and client engagement.
Chartered Engineer status and membership in a relevant professional body is required.
Knowledge of depot design, maintenance planning, and asset management systems is desirable.
