Working across Transmission of up to 765kV. Our teams provide specialist advice and services to internal and external clients. The team is involved in a wide range of transmission projects in the energy, rail, nuclear, building and utilities sectors. These are fantastic long-term opportunities working with our clients in areas such as Solar PV, onshore & offshore wind and interconnectors, utilities, nuclear, data centres and industrial facilities.

The Opportunity
Due to significant growth across our Energy portfolio Locally and in Arup Globally, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Transmission Overhead Line Electrical Engineer in either our Johannesburg or Cape Town Branch. Performing design, analysis, and optimisation of overhead transmission lines, including tower spotting, route planning, and sag-tension calculations. Leading and managing OHL projects from inception to close-out, ensuring they meet budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Ensuring all designs comply with relevant national and international standards, such as SANS, IEC 60826, IEEE, NESC, and client-specific requirements. Preparing detailed design documentation, technical reports, specifications for the procurement of materials (BoM/BoQ), and construction documents. Providing technical support during the construction, installation, and commissioning phases of projects. Liaising with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance and manage expectations.

Is this role right for you?
We are looking for people with the following skills –
· A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BSc/BEng/BTech) in Electrical Engineering is required. A Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline can be an advantage.
· Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech Eng is prerequisite.
· Your role will involve technical delivery and project management within a team but also working individually on various projects.
· Extensive experience in overhead power line design, construction, and maintenance, experience should specifically cover high voltage (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission systems, such as 132kV up to 765kV.
· Client/project management in the capacity of a technical lead on project tasks and hands-on knowledge of OHL design software such as: PLSCad and others. Ability to conduct OHL feasibility studies.
