Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

Arup’s growing Placemaking team in Wales and the West are seeking a talented Senior Urban Designer to help deliver our current work, diversify our offer and to steer and develop the future of our business. You will be joining a team with colleagues in both Cardiff and Bristol and we can offer flexibility on which of those offices you choose to work from on a hybrid basis.

This role will involve work on a wide range of design, planning and engineering led projects, including strategic regional plans, master-planning, prominent public realm, nationally significant infrastructure projects, such as highways, coastal, rural and urban flood mitigation and green and blue Infrastructure projects. We work on projects and with clients locally in Wales, the West of England and internationally including Europe, the Middle East and South Africa. There will be opportunities for travel to sites and offices across the UK and occasionally overseas.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

The right individual will have exceptional design skills and be confident in managing delivery of a range of master-planning, urban design and multi-disciplinary projects. The role will involve collaborating internally and externally as part of multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated high-quality outputs for clients. You will work closely with our leadership to design and deliver award winning projects. You will be used to resourcing and delivering projects with high quality, on time and within budget. You will be comfortable presenting to clients and taking the lead on urban design and proposals within a project team.

The successful candidate will be capable of promoting the practice, look for cross selling opportunities and continue to grow the team. Accordingly, the successful candidate will play a role in business development, client relationship building and bid preparation. As this role requires travel throughout the UK, you need to hold a valid UK driving license. If you are a Chartered Member of the RIBA and have a background in Urban design, we want to hear from you.
