The Opportunity
•    Growing planning team in Vietnam and also supporting wider SE Asia planning efforts.  
•    Vietnam based but integrated into broader Malaysia, Indonesia, SE Asia, regional and global planning teams. 
•    To work on exciting projects in Vietnam as well as across the SE Asia region in strategic planning and masterplanning projects within multidisciplinary teams including advisory, urban design, mobility, sustainability, research and innovation.

Who we are looking for:
•    Senior Urban Planner (with qualifications in Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, Urban Design or equivalent)
•    Vietnam urban planning and masterplanning consulting experience, working with a variety of public and private sector clients.

•    Proficient in both Vietnamese as well as English languages.

About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Planner/ Senior Urban Designer to join our growing Vietnam Cities, Planning and Design Team. With an exciting and innovative pipeline of work, you will help lead the delivery of projects as well as help to develop the team’s capability and depth.

As part of a regional team of urban planners, economists, transport planners and designers, you will play a key role in the winning and delivery of a wide range of exciting and city shaping projects:

•    Strategic planning, economic positioning, integrated land use-mobility-engineering studies;
•    Masterplanning & Urban Design Studies & Plans.
•    Various multi-disciplinary studies funded by International Financial Institutions (World Bank, ADB etc.);
•    Sustainability & urban resilience strategies;
•    Supporting major infrastructure delivery team through strategic planning, technical advice, and planning approvals.
•    Working with the advisory team to integrate economics, planning & design for various studies. 
•    Reporting to the Vietnam office leader as well as to the SE Asia Cities, Planning & Design leader.

As a senior member of the planning team, you will be required to:
•    Assemble project teams to bid on and deliver projects; 
•    Manage the delivery of key projects across the region;
•    Help to drive the shape and direction planning and design business; 
•    Leverage industry connections to drive work winning across Arup
•    Teaching, mentoring, and managing staff
•    Develop connections across Arup and contribute to planning skills networks

Critical to Success:

•    Knowledge ofplanning & design business – Comes to the role with a strategic understanding and experience with strategic planning and masterplanning projects across Vietnam as well as South-east Asia and able to demonstrate what issues matter on the projects you deliver. 
•    Client focused – Preparation of high-quality bids and reports that meet client needs, maintaining positive client and key stakeholder relationships
•    Project delivery – Project management and high commercial acumen, strong written communication and presentation skills, responsible for the preparation of proposals and reports to required budget and timeframes
•    Consulting experience – Working collaboratively as part of interdisciplinary bid and project teams (both internal and external to Arup), including economics, urban design, transport, infrastructure and statutory planners
•    Business development – Enthusiasm and skills to support the identification of new business opportunities and generate new work for the team with support from others across the service area
•    Values driven – Maintains a focus on quality, and a desire to contribute to vibrant, sustainable and inclusive places
 

Key Criteria:

•    Tertiary qualifications in Planning, Economics, Social Sciences or related qualifications
•    8-12 years minimum experience, ideally with a background working in Vietnam as well as regional clients

Knowledge and Experience 
•    Knowledge of the planning industry and key stakeholders in Vietnam & the SE Asia Region;
•    Existing networks in the industry including potential clients and collaborators. 
•    Knowledge of key trends of the regional planning landscape including policies, key infrastructure projects, and reform agendas.
•    Experience in advising clients on strategy, planning and design for large scale planning, multi-disciplinary projects and urban design plans

Skills and capability
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Self motivated. 
•    Maintains a focus on quality and passionate about sustainability.
•    Very good research and analytical skills.
•    Proficient in both Vietnamese and English.

Projects and Teams 
•    Experience in project delivery, including client management and the preparation of high-quality reports to budget
•    Experience in leading project teams 
•    Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
•    Excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to foster teamwork and develop successful working relationships with clients and other technical teams across the organisation (Vietnam, South-east Asia, Asia Pacific and globally)
