Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Istanbul.
We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. We are a global consultancy with extensive technical and advisory expertise.
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
We bring together designers, planners, engineers and specialists to deliver integrated, sustainable solutions across the built environment. Our urban design and masterplanning team work at every scale — from neighbourhood frameworks to city-wide strategies — creating places that are purposeful, equitable, and beautiful
The Opportunity
Our masterplanning team in Türkiye is growing to respond to exciting market opportunities across the region. We are looking for a Senior Urban Designer to play a central role in building this capability — helping us win, lead, and deliver high-quality urban design and masterplanning commissions.
You will be instrumental in establishing design leadership, strengthening client relationships, and delivering projects that shape cities and communities.
As a Senior Urban Planner at Arup, you will:
Take ownership of project concept design — independently leading masterplanning projects from initial concept through subsequent stages, directing and reviewing outputs at each milestone.
Establish yourself as the design lead — undertaking urban design tasks, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring design quality and coherence across all project deliverables.
Build client confidence and team capability — actively engaging with clients, presenting work with clarity and influence, and mentoring team members to elevate the team's overall design standards.
Does this role inspire you?
We're looking for someone who is passionate about working in multidisciplinary teams alongside engineers, architects, and other built-environment specialists. We also value:
Master's degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Urban Design, or Urban Planning.
Significant professional experience in urban design and masterplanning — typically 10+ years.
Proven ability to manage and lead a project team of typically 5–10 people, taking full responsibility for the delivery of project outputs to programme, budget, and quality expectations.
Strong visual and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to convey design intent through a variety of techniques — diagrams, sketches, 3D models, drawings, and presentations.
Experience engaging directly with clients and key stakeholders across both public and private sectors, with the ability to influence and build trust.
Strong professional proficiency in English and Turkish (written and spoken)
