The Opportunity
Translation (Written Communication)
Translate documents, correspondence, technical reports, proposals, presentations, manuals, and other materials from Vietnamese to English and/or Japanese/Mandarin, and vice versa.
Ensure the accuracy of meaning, context, tone, and style in all translated content.
·Edit and proofread translations for clarity, grammar, consistency, and compliance with Arup’s branding and professional standards.
Conduct research on technical terminology, engineering concepts, legal terms, and industry-specific language as needed.
Work closely with project managers/directors, engineers, and support teams to ensure translations meet technical and operational requirements.
Maintain secure handling of confidential information and documentation.
Interpretation (Verbal Communication)
· Provide consecutive or simultaneous interpretation during meetings, workshops, technical discussions, site visits, stakeholder engagements, and internal reviews.
Accurately convey the speaker’s intent, tone, and message while maintaining impartiality and professionalism.
Seek clarification when necessary to ensure both parties fully understand each other.
Prepare for interpreting assignments by researching relevant terminology, project details, and client background.
Collaboration & Administrative Support
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
Assist with administrative duties or communication tasks as required by business operations.
Support internal communication materials, translation audits, and quality reviews.
Uphold Arup’s professional and ethical standards in all interactions.
Is this role right for you?
Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Languages, Communication, or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered. Fluency in English and Japanese or Mandarin.
6–10 years of translation and interpretation experience, ideally in an engineering, architecture, construction, or consultancy environment.
Strong understanding of cultural nuances, technical vocabulary, and industry-specific terminology.
Proven ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with interpreting techniques (consecutive, simultaneous, whispered, etc.) is an advantage.
Professional certification related to translation/interpreting is desirable.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Time management and organizational skills.
