The Water Engineer (Network Designer) is responsible for delivering high-quality designs for water supply, used water (wastewater), and drainage networks. This role supports Arup’s commitment to creating sustainable, resilient, and innovative infrastructure solutions. The position requires a strong foundation in hydraulics to ensure sound engineering judgment and design integrity. The designer will apply advanced modeling tools alongside analytical skills to produce efficient, reliable, and future-ready networks. The role is based in Manila office.
Your role in the team
- Develop detailed designs for water, used water, and drainage networks in accordance with project requirements and Arup’s design principles.
- Apply hydraulic principles and engineering judgment to validate designs beyond software outputs.
- Utilize hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, ICM) to optimize network performance.
- Instigate input and review from peers and experts to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Manage scope and change within assigned tasks, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Resolve straightforward, routine problems using established precedents and escalate complex issues when necessary.
- Incorporate sustainable and nature-based solutions to enhance resilience and environmental outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with local and international standards, health and safety regulations, and Arup’s quality assurance processes.
- Ensure all work within the discipline is checked and meets Arup’s quality standards.
- Link project details to implications for the “big picture”, considering cost, client relations, and long-term impacts.
- Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and reports for client and regulatory submissions.
- Seek creative and innovative solutions to improve design efficiency and sustainability.
Is this role right for you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Sanitary Engineering or related discipline
- Strong background in hydraulics and network design principles
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in water, wastewater, and drainage network design
- Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (i.e., ICM, WaterGEMs, SewerGEMs, etc.), Civil 3D, AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Solid understanding of hydraulics and fluid mechanics principles, ensuring sound engineering judgment beyond software reliance
- Ability to analyze complex scenarios, anticipate challenges, and propose practical solutions.
