The Opportunity

We have a new opportunity working on maritime engineering design, focussing on structural engineering for jetties, quays and other maritime structures and/or civil engineering for ports, coastal protection, flood defences and waterfront developments.  You will help deliver port and maritime projects successfully and in accordance with client requirements. Project managing small/medium sized port and maritime engineering projects on time and to budget and providing highly responsive maritime advice service to all Arup offices.

Part of your role will be to support and guide younger maritime engineers driving forward innovation in the design of maritime infrastructure.  Representing the maritime team on multi-disciplinary projects, you will b required occasionally on business trips within the UK and overseas.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for the following skills and knowledge:

  • Degree qualified: Engineering Degree or equivalent and working towards Chartered status through IStructE, ICE or other relevant body.
  • Previous experience of the design of heavy civils / maritime projects including experience of Eurocodes and BS 6349
  • Project management experience for small to medium size projects
  • Exposure dealing directly with clients 
  • Experience in developing others and promoting learning opportunities from successes and problems that arise
  • A proven ability to work in teams, to multi-task and to work to deadlines.

Desirable skills and knowledge include; Awareness of geotechnical design and soil-structure interaction and modelling of sea-state conditions and loads;  Knowledge and skills in design of maritime structures (e.g. jetties, quay walls, dredging, reclamation); skills in coastal engineering design (e.g. breakwaters, revetments, nature-based solutions); Experience in design and build projects; skills in digital tools, coding, computer aided design, GIS and other relevant software.
